Dr. Sherry Ingraham Offers Skin Care Tips And Home Remedies
Advanced Dermatology Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Sherry Ingraham presents seven manageable resolutions for generating healthy skin and preventing aging and skin cancer.
1. PERFORM MONTHLY SKIN SELF-EXAMS. Be sure to examine everywhere and always be wary of your ABCDE's. (Check moles for Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter and Evolving). Once a year, visit a board certified dermatologist who is trained to promptly diagnosis any skin irregularity and provide accurate, advanced care.
2. WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERYDAY. UVA rays cause skin aging, wrinkling and cancer. Apply an SPF of 30 or higher each morning and reapply if in the sun for an extended period of time.
3. USE A RETINOID CREAM. Apply on your face before bed every other night. These vitamin A creams unclog pores, boost collagen to reduce fine lines and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration and smooth the skin.
4. EXFOLIATE REGULARLY. Once or twice a week use a gentle exfoliator to jump-start the skin renewal process and rid dead skin that clogs pores.
5. MOISTURIZE AFTER SHOWERING. Because warm showers strips the skin of natural oils, it is important to moisturize within 10 minutes of showering while the skin is still moist.
6. REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP AT NIGHT. Don't let makeup mix with skin oils and dirt, causing breakouts. As soon as you get home, wash your face with a gentle cleanser. If you are too tired to make it the sink, use an oil-free makeup remover towelette.
7. CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES. Try to wash your tools monthly with a liquid hand soap or baby shampoo and lukewarm water (hot water can cause bristles to fall out), then rinse well, squeeze out the excess water, reshape, and allow the brushes to dry thoroughly.
