In-office Chemical Peels for Acne

But we’re here to set the record straight: a chemical peel does not mean your entire face will peel off leaving raw, burnt skin. How do chemical peels work?

There are several types of chemical peels available both in the office and over the counter, but they all work in the same way. Essentially, the exfoliating ingredients in the peel work to breakdown and remove the top layer of of dead skin cells, allowing fresh, new skin to regenerate or surface. Other benefits of peels include minimized appearance of pores, reduction in the appearance of fine lines and a more even skin tone.

How many treatments?

At Advanced Dermatology, we customize treatment plans for each patient depending on their skin color, tone, texture and concerns. I typically recommend a series of peels based for optimal results.

What is involved in the recovery?

The downtime for an in-office peel varies between five to seven days. Some patients may experience side effects ranging from slight flaking to a more noticeable sloughing of the skin. As the skin continues to peel it is important to avoid excess sun exposure and picking at the skin to achieve best results.
