NEW PATIENTS

Patient Resources

We would like to thank you for being a patient in our office. We highly value our patients and our goal is to provide the best care possible in a comfortable setting. Please understand that when we schedule your appointment, we are reserving time for your particular needs.

We kindly ask that if you must change an appointment, please give us at least 24 hours notice. We know that your time is valuable. If this is not possible, call as soon as you can so that another patient may be given your appointment time.

We understand that occasional missed appointments can occur for a variety of reasons. Effective January 1, 2019, if you are unable to cancel with 24 hour notice or no-show to your appointment, there will be an automatic $40 charge added to your account. Insurance will not cover the charges for late cancellations or no-shows.

The following are required at your initial visit:

  • Insurance card (if applicable)
  • Driver’s License or Photo Identification
  • Any referrals required by your insurance
  • Access your Patient Portal to complete your medical history online
  • A list of all medications you are currently taking (including over-the-counter remedies, vitamins, and herbal supplements)
  • List of question or concerns you may have about your illness or treatment to discuss with your provider

Special Instructions for your visit:

  • New Patients need to arrive about 20 minutes early to complete any additional paperwork. If you were unable to access your Patient Portal, a member from our team can assist you.
  • You will then be asked to sign off on our office policies and consent for treatments
  • If you are with your child, you will be asked to sign our consent form to treat a minor
  • If you have a skin issue or rash, stop applying any cream for this condition a few days before your appointment. Bring any creams with you to the appointment.

What To Expect From Your Dermatology Visit

Here at Advanced Dermatology Houston, we want to help maintain your skin’s overall health. Our dermatologists will examine your skin concerns and can diagnose a range of skin conditions, including skin cancer. If it is your first time here at Advanced Dermatology, here is an overview of what will happen during your clinical visit.

Before The Visit

Please make sure to complete the medical history in the portal prior to your appointment. This will help in providing us your relevant medical history and moving you through your visit promptly. If you are unable to do so, please arrive 20 minutes early to complete it in the office. If you do not complete your paperwork prior to your appointment, your visit may be delayed. During your dermatology appointment, you will want to make sure that your dermatologist can easily examine your skin. This will allow you to discuss any changes in your skin with your provider.

During The Visit

When you arrive at our office, you will be directed to a private exam room. If you will be undergoing a skin cancer evaluation, you will be asked to change into a gown. Your provider will ask you a series of questions and discuss your concerns with you, and then he/she will look over your skin. The exam itself may only take a few minutes.

During this time, your dermatologist will evaluate any moles, discoloration, and other skin issues on your body. As dermatology is a “visual specialty”, the provider is often evaluating visible areas of your skin while the two of you are speaking. So, your skin is likely being evaluated without you realizing it. If anything abnormal or concerning is found, your provider may recommend a biopsy.

If you have multiple concerns, it may require an additional visit to allow adequate time for the evaluation while also maintaining acceptable wait times for all patients.

After The Visit

Depending on your skin issues, your provider may recommend specific treatments or medications. If you will be undergoing treatment to address a skin problem, you will be able to schedule your next appointment after your exam. If your dermatologist has prescribed any medications, you will receive an explanation of how to use those medications. It will then be up to you to follow your dermatology provider’s instructions for medication use and daily skincare techniques. If you have an issue obtaining your prescription or if the cost is unaffordable, please notify a member of our staff as other options may be available.
