Injectables

With the advancements in modern aesthetic medicine, patients now have many options for treating the signs of aging and other cosmetic concerns. Injectable treatments have become increasingly popular because they provide fast results without surgery and involve minimal downtime. Based on your specific concerns, the experienced staff at Advanced Dermatology will help guide you through the process of selecting the right treatment.

Injectables can be broken down into two broad categories: neurotoxins and dermal fillers.

The different types of injectables

Neurotoxins: Botox and Dysport

Neurotoxins work by relaxing the muscle, preventing muscle contractions and therefore softening the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The duration of results vary from patient to patient with the average ranging from 3-4 months. Advanced Dermatology Houston the two most popular neurotoxins on the market:

  • Botox
  • Dysport

Dermal Fillers

Just as the name implies, most fillers are used to “fill-in” lines, wrinkles and facial volume loss. Depending on desired results, dermatologists have a wide range of fillers at their disposal and will tailor a custom treatment based on those needs. Fillers can be subdivided by: hyaluronic acid fillers (such as Juvederm, Voluma, or Restylane), calcium hydroxyapatite fillers (Radiesse) and poly L-lactic acid fillers (Sculptra).

For more heavy lifting and volumizing of the cheek, mid-face and temple area; Radiesse, Restylane Lyft, Sculptra and Voluma are excellent treatment options while the lips and nasolabial folds (smile lines) require a lighter, more superficial filler such as Restylane, Restylane Silk, Juvederm Vollure, Juvederm Ultra or Ultra Plus.

Advanced Dermatology offers the following fillers:

  • Bellafill – collagen-based dermal filler used to lift and fill acne scars and nasolabial folds.
  • Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus – hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers that helps the skin retain moisture, softness and add volume.
  • Juvéderm Voluma – injectable gel that adds volume to the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss.
  • Juvéderm Volbella – injectable filler that helps add volume to the lips and smooths vertical lip lines.
  • Juvéderm Vollure – filler that helps soften moderate to severe smile lines to create a smoother appearance without sacrificing natural facial movement.
  • Restylane – visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the  nasolabial folds and marionette lines.
  • Restylane Silk – injectable filler designed specifically plump the lips using smaller, smoother hyaluronic acid particles for a natural-looking appearance.
  • Restylane Lyft – filler designed for cheek augmentation and the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies, as well as moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
  • Restylane Defyne – helps smooth out deep laugh lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines) while helping you maintain your natural expressions.
  • Restylane Refyne – unique HA filler designed to smooth deep laugh lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines).
  • Radiesse and Radiesse (+) – used to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds as well as correct volume loss in the back of the hands.

Kybella: the injectable treatment designed to treat “double-chins”

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that is indicated for the reduction of fat under the chin. Kybella breaks down fat cells in the targeted area and they are removed through the body’s natural processes.

Sculptra: the injectable that stimulates natural collagen production

Sculptra is an injectable treatment that uses poly-L-lactic acid to stimulate your own natural collagen production. It works to correct shallow to deep facial lines that appear with age by replacing lost collagen to provide a more refined, youthful appearance.  Sculptra is FDA approved to give subtle results over a longer period of time so that you can maintain a more natural looking appearance. On average, a series of three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months to produce noticeable results, which emerge subtly and can last up to two years.

How to select the right injectable treatment

A quick and easy rule? Toxins treat lines of expression, while lines at rest need filler. Toxins and fillers are commonly used in conjunction to enhance results. An in-person consultation is the best way to determine the best treatment plan for your unique facial features.
